Remove the two screws in the rear handle under the pop up tabs, unscrew the door lock pin, and gently going around the panel pop off the tailgate panel.
You’ll need to remove the door handle and latch, and the vertical door pin rod, so gently unclip the connecting arms and unscrew the latch from the tailgate.
Disconnect the harness and push the wire grommet through the door frame inward.
Rotate by hand the latch grab so it’s fully vertical and gently angle and pull out the latch mechanism downward and out. Apply a bit of force by hand (push) to help it out.
Once out located the micro switch in the mechanism—its held in place by a clip and dab of black silicone, gently pry up the clip then the switch to break the silicone bond with a plastic pry tool.
The switch has little plastic pegs that locate into the recesses in the latch assembly.
Apply a bit of silicone sealant adhesive in the same place and install new switch in the same locating pins.
Allow 24 hours to cure before reinstalling. Test proper operation of the latch by connecting the wire harnesses are functioning correctly.
Disconnect wire harnesses and begin reassembly.
Reassemble in reverse order.
