About

Whilst I normally service the G55 AMG at the Mercedes-Benz dealer, sometimes it is necessary and fun to do some of the work myself. A rear window regulator replacement can be quoted at $1500 at the dealer, vs $40 for the part of Amazon and an hour’s worth of work. It’s therapy, and a man needs time with his machine.

As a hobbyist working on a G-Wagen myself rather, sometimes important information on repairs, part numbers needs to be recorded somewhere. Things like, novel facts not known or supported by the dealer, like replacing/upgrading one’s steering damper to a Bilstein counterpart which does not exist for the G, but does exist for the Land Rover Discovery II and fits perfectly on the G and yields steering improvement. I’ll also try and link various parts I use to either Amazon or another retailer where I purchased mine.

Going along with upkeep of a high mileage G55, I’ll be documenting various tidbits here. Information is free and no guarantees are provided, be your own judge.
